QUARTER-FINAL PREVIEW | Dons v Barrow Raiders

The Dons have an elimination quarter-final against Barrow Raiders at Club Doncaster Sports Village on Sunday 20 September (3pm KO).

In the first round of the play-offs, the two teams met, with Richard Horne’s side producing an emphatic 72-0 win.

However, with Dons being beaten 42-6 by London Broncos and Barrow overcoming Sheffield Eagles 26-10 last time out, there is another meeting scheduled for this weekend.

The game presents an opportunity for Connor Robinson to reach 500 goals for the club, needing seven to achieve this. His world record kicking streak is also still going, with the 31-year-old now on 53.

Meanwhile, Connor Jones is just two shy from 100 career tries, opening the chance for both Dons players to mark the fixture with personal milestones.

Speaking on the London result, Horne said: “They are a very good team with lots of quality. At times, we just fed them with the errors that we made.

“We needed to avoid that, which we did in periods, but when there were mistakes it just took the energy out of us.

“That is something we will address as a group and make sure we get it right next time.”

On the Barrow test, he added: “It won't be as easy as everyone's probably thinking after last time. We will be expecting the best version of Barrow.

“They didn’t show themselves in the best light, but this competition can do that to you. One team can be red hot, whilst the other can be off it, and that is when you get heavy scorelines put on you.

“This time, both sides know it is the last chance to stay in the hunt, and we will be ready for a tough game.”

Reece Lyne has been an integral part in Dons’ successful push for play-offs. His rugby career will come to an end at the conclusion of this campaign, and he will be hoping to finish strong.

Discussing Barrow next time out, he said: “It is always a tough game against Barrow. Last time it was obviously a bit of a runaway with the scoreline, but I am expecting them to respond and look to put some things right.

“I have a lot of belief in our group. The important thing is we have got another chance this week.”

On avoiding this being his last rugby appearance, he explained: “I'm hoping it's not and we still have another three weeks left. I am determined to go out with a grand final win.

“I think we have built something special. I know we didn't get it dead right on Sunday, but I know if we do this time, which we are capable of, then we can definitely go all the way.”
